Moving Forward with Nathan Stockmeir, President of Castle & Cooke Mainland
For over 30 years Castle & Cooke has been dedicated to developing the west side of Bakersfield into a desirable area for residential living and commercial shopping. Nathan Stockmeir, the new president of Castle & Cooke Mainland divisions, gave Stroll Seven Oaks an exclusive interview about Castle & Cooke and his plans for the company’s future.
Tell us about your background and what motivated you to take this position?
I previously served as the President of the Sherwood Development Company, which is a Castle & Cooke development located in Westlake Village. This large-scale, master-planned community is what inspired me to move into a position within the company to continue developing and expanding our footprint with numerous master-planned communities that include residential, commercial, and industrial assets.
Tell us about Castle & Cooke.
Castle & Cooke is a privately held premier luxury developer founded by David Murdock. The Mainland Division has holdings in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, and California. In all these areas we have a single purpose and vision, which is to develop and build meaningful, beautiful, purpose-driven offerings. Mr. Murdock lives by this simple principle, “Success isn’t something you achieve by accident, but rather by design.” By adhering to this principle, our developments will live on in beauty and function for many generations. Our dedication to creating a unique product is something that can already be seen in Bakersfield, from the award-winning golf course of the Seven Oaks Country Club to one-of-a-kind shopping centers like The Marketplace and The Shops at River Walk. Castle & Cooke has developed many of Bakersfield’s most desirable communities, like Seven Oaks, The Brighton series, and currently the master planned development of Highgate at Seven Oaks.
What sets Castle & Cooke apart?
The vision and goals of Castle & Cooke are what make our company unique. We have a process of “inclusive design,” with the objective of delivering communities centered around lifestyle first, followed by homes that are efficient and modern with the current design trends that homebuyers desire. We focus on building the community first. When you drive or walk through any of our past or present projects you will discover that you are somewhere special. You will see thoughtful design elements like tree lined streets, vinyl fencing, and beautiful gated entries featuring nostalgic old-world elegance with a modern twist. Residents in our communities are so much more than just neighbors, they interact with one another and develop a real community built around the resort-style amenities. Our shopping centers are also carefully planned to offer the community a variety of well-known luxury brands in addition to local small businesses.
What are your goals and objectives for Castle & Cooke moving forward?
To continue to serve our community with an exciting mix of master planned residential and commercial properties. Castle & Cooke has always sought ways to better serve homebuyers, and that begins with developing new floor plans to meet different needs, creating new and attractive home elevations, and continuing to deliver the resort-style amenities and design features that residents of Bakersfield expect from a Castle & Cooke community.
